Southern Portugal: urgency and opportunity for regenerative transformation

July 1, 2025

Regions like Alentejo benefit from:
• Over 2,800 hours of sunshine/year
• Mild winters
• Low frost risk

These conditions support year-round forage growth and grazing. However, recurring droughts increasingly challenge conventional extensive grazing systems that are prone to drought and rely heavily on imported feed.

At the same time, while the region has a deep pastoral tradition, skilled agricultural labour is limited, underscoring the need for scalable
models and targeted workforce development.

That’s where our regenerative Adaptive Multi-Paddock (AMP) grazing comes in.
It tackles both climate and labour challenges by:
✅ Rebuilding soil fertility
✅ Increasing water retention
✅ Reducing the need for feed and veterinary inputs
✅ Lowering costs
✅ Improving long-term land resilience

We’ve applied this model across 40,000 hectares of regenerative farmland in South America, and now we’re adapting it to Iberian conditions, using what we’ve learnt to accelerate impact at scale.
